鋼琴演奏家徐如媛為國際性的鋼琴獨奏家與室內樂音樂家。她曾多次於台灣的主要城市演 出,包括台北、高雄、台中、台南,及屏東。國際性的演出則包括在美國伊士曼音樂院的Howard Hanson音樂廳、Kilbourn音樂廳、Nazareth大學Wilmont音樂廳、Fort Hays州立大學Beach/Schmidt表演藝術中心、石楠崖大學Theresa Dee Meis演奏廳、西北學院基督教堂、法國巴黎音樂節Centre Culturel et artistique,Le Moulin d’Andé,以及韓國梨花女子大學演奏廳舉行過多場音樂會及個人獨奏會。她亦曾與台南市青年愛樂管弦樂團、台南女子技術學院管弦樂團協奏演出,並與國際知名指揮家Nancia D’Alimonte合作演出普羅高菲夫第三號鋼琴協奏曲。

國際知名鋼琴及伊士曼音樂院傑出的教授Natalya Antonova曾評論她的演奏為「震撼有力且帶有精緻音色與自然的表達」。徐如媛的講座音樂會『從諾瑪歌劇的影響探討十九世紀巴黎超技演奏家–李斯特之諾瑪的回憶錄』贏得在場著名鋼琴家同時也是美國李斯特協會創辦人及榮譽主席Fernando Laires先生與各界的讚賞。她也為當代作曲家陳玫君的鋼琴獨奏作品《殤》及《夜雨鋼琴獨奏曲》作世界首演,震撼人心,作曲家曾如此評論:『徐如媛以演奏展現專業的純粹,在現今這個人謀不臧的世代裡,格外彌足珍貴。』

徐如媛在2003年受邀於堪薩斯州Lindsborg的Birger Sandzen紀念中心之『室內樂音樂會系列』中擔任客席演出。並應美國堪薩斯州立大學之邀,與鋼琴家Junghwa Lee於Fort Hays州立大學的Beach/Schmidt表演藝術中心,演出雙鋼琴音樂會,獲得全場起立致敬之好評。曾應邀於2010東海大學國際音樂節中,與國際單簧管協會樂隊獨奏首獎及德州青年藝術家獨奏比賽銀牌獎得主錢俊(Jun Qian)教授擔綱演出經典的豎笛與鋼琴二重奏作品。2011年受美國 大專院校音樂學會College Music Society(CMS)之邀,於韓國首爾的CMS國際音樂年會中為作曲家陳玫君所創作之《古風組曲》作首演。2011年再度應邀於東海大學國際音樂節以及國家演奏廳,與豎笛家錢俊攜手合作『映像.印象』-鋼琴與豎笛之法式二重奏。2012年徐如媛受邀於OIKOS社區關懷協會(Taipei Community Services Association)所舉辦的『藝文之夜』中演出-『舒曼的藝術與愛情』獨奏會,並為作曲家陳玫君的《夜雨鋼琴獨奏曲》作首演。因這次成功的演出,她隨後即受邀於2012年台北Fazioli中心及2013年台北國家演奏廳演出『舒曼的藝術與愛情』音樂會二部曲。2013年12月首度發行個人鋼琴獨奏專輯【瑰麗變奏與幻想】(http://www.chorphilia.com/multimedia/27),佳評如潮。2014年『世界之舞』與霍夫曼鋼琴大賽首獎得主Juyeon Kang合作雙鋼琴音樂會國際巡迴演出。2015年徐如媛於台北國家演奏廳之鋼琴獨奏會『繽紛變奏』,演出曲目全數收錄於【繽紛變奏】個人鋼琴獨奏專輯(http://www.chorphilia.com/multimedia/146),並於2017年發行上市。

在教學及演奏之專業領域上,徐如媛在2004年應邀於交通大學音樂學術論壇中演講,並且在2005年受邀至國立台灣大學演講【十九世紀的鋼琴改編曲之藝術】。2008受邀於布拉姆斯國際學術研討會中主講“Brahms and the Transformation of Variations in His Solo Piano Works.”2012年於東海大學主辦之國際研討會上主講【早期鋼琴練習曲】。她並於多種比賽中受邀擔任評審,包括2005及2006年擔任東海大學音樂學系鋼琴協奏曲決賽之評審,2012年台北市音樂比賽之評審,2013年新逸之星評審,2014日本古典音樂大賽–台灣音符田文化藝術主辦之台灣首獎音樂大賽評審。此外,她亦參與美國全國音樂教師協會(MTNA)及現為美國大專院校音樂學會(CMS)之專業會員。

徐如媛榮獲美國羅徹斯特大學伊士曼音樂院(Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester)鋼琴演奏音樂碩士(Master of Music)及鋼琴演奏音樂藝術博士(Doctor of Musical Arts)學位。主要師事俄裔美籍名師Natalya Antonova、美國名師David Burge、陳信美、Yi-Yin Hung及陳敏華,她也參與享有世界級聲譽音樂家的大師班,像是Hung-Kuan Chen、葉綠娜、Malcolm Bilson、Vitaly Margulis及Barry Snyder。此外,她也曾與鋼琴家陳泰成、魏樂富、陳必先習藝,而室內樂則分別與Douglas Prosser及Mikhail Kopelman學習。

Pianist Joanne Hsu performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. She has presented numerous recitals in the major cities in Taiwan, including Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan, and Pingtung. Her international appearances include Howard Hanson Hall, Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music, Wilmont Hall at Nazareth College, Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center at Fort Hays State University, Theresa Dee Meis Recital Hall at Briar Cliff University, Christ Chapel at Northwestern College in U. S. A., Centre Culturel et artistique, Le Moulin d’Andé in France, and Recital Hall of Ewah Womans University in South Korea. She also appeared as a soloist with Tainan City Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Tainan Women’s College of Arts & Technology, and performed Prokofiev’s third piano concerto under the baton of an internationally recognized conductor, Nancia D’Alimonte.

Natalya Antonova, the world-renowned pianist and the distinguished professor of the piano at the Eastman School of Music, commented on her performance as “powerful and splendid, yet with exquisite tone and natural expression.” Hsu’s lecture recital on Liszt’s Reminiscence de Norma has won critical acclaim from the public and world-renowned pianist Fernando Laires, the founder and the president emeritus of the American Liszt Society. Hsu world-premiered “Shang” (Premature Death) for piano solo and “Evening Rains” for piano solo by composer Mei-chun Chen. The composer commented on her playing: “The pure professionalism residing in Joanne Hsu’s performances, is truly exceptional in this world full of buffoons.”

Hsu was invited to perform at Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas and presented a standing ovation duo recital with pianist Junghwa Lee at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center of Fort Hays State University in U. S. A. in 2003. Hsu performed a duo recital at Tunghai International Music Festival Concert Series 2010 with the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition prize winner, Jun Qian, a clarinet Professor from Baylor University, U. S. A. In 2011, she was invited by College Music Society to premiere “Suite Antiqua” at International Conference of The College Music Society, Seoul and Gyeongju, South Korea. In 2011, Hsu and Qian presented the “French Reflections”– the piano and the clarinet duo recital at Taipei National Recital Hall, as well as at Tunghai International Music Festival Concert Series 2011. In 2012, Hsu was invited by OIKOS Taipei Community Service Association as a guest soloist. She performed a piano recital entitled “Schumann’s Art and Love”. The well-received recital led to an invitation by Fazioli Piano Center in Taipei in the same year, and a sequel piano recital of “Schumann’s Art and Love” in the prestigious Taipei National Recital Hall in 2013. Her debut recording of “Splendid Variations and Fantasies” (http://www.chorphilia.com/multimedia/27) released from Chorphilia in December 2013 has won critical acclaim. Hsu collaborated with pianist Juyeon Kang in 2014 Concert Tour “Dances of the Wrold” Piano Duo Recitals, which received immediate standing ovations from the audience. Her “Prismatic Piano Variations” piano solo recital was given at the Taipei National Recital Hall in 2015. In demand as a teacher and educator, Hsu has given lectures on “the Nineteenth Century Piano Transcriptions” at National ChiaoTung University (2004), and National Taiwan University (2005). She was invited to present a speech, entitled “Brahms and the Transformation of Variations in His Solo Piano Works” in Brahms International Conference in 2008 and “The Early Piano Etudes” in the International Conference held at Tunghai University in 2012. She also adjudicated numerous competitions, including Piano Concerto Competition at Tunghai University in 2005 and 2006, Taipei City Music Competition in 2012, 7th New Art Music Star Competition in 2013, and Taiwan First Prize Competition 2014 hosted by Taiwan Onputa Cultural Arts. Her other professional activities include Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), College Music Society (CMS).

Hsu received her doctoral and master's degrees in piano performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, U. S. A. Her principal teachers include Natalya Antonova, David Burge, Hsin-Mei Chen and Min-Hwa Chen, and she also participated in master classes with world-renowned musicians such as Hung-Kuan Chen, Lina Yeh, Malcolm Bilson, Vitaly Margulis, and Barry Snyder. In addition, she has studied with pianists Tai-Cheng Chen, Rolf-Peter Wille, Pi-Hsien Chen, and chamber music with Douglas Prosser and Mikhail Kopelman, respectively.
